Our history

SELART’s roots date back to the international cooperation model developed through OWZ Bayern and OWZ-Armenia in the early 2000s.

This initiative brought together educational and professional organisations across approximately 23 countries, promoting international education, professional development, institutional cooperation and the exchange of European expertise.

The network progressively evolved into the International Education & Research Alliance and, in 2022, the SELART International Education & Research Group was established to provide a permanent structure for international education and research programmes.

SELART today

Today, SELART brings together independent institutions around shared international objectives while respecting their legal identity, academic responsibility and governance.

The SELART ecosystem focuses on five strategic areas:

• international education and joint programmes;
• research and innovation;
• professional and management development;
• student, faculty and professional mobility;
• global institutional partnerships.

Through this network, SELART supports knowledge exchange, research cooperation, institutional development, international mobility and stronger connections between education and employment.

SELART works to develop long-term cooperation between Europe and partner regions while creating new opportunities for students, educators, researchers, professionals and institutions worldwide.

Our vision for 2026–2030

SELART’s ambition is to become a leading global education and research ecosystem connecting:

• Europe and the world;
• education and employment;
• research and innovation;
• institutions and international opportunities.

Between 2026 and 2030, SELART will continue to expand its international network, develop regional hubs, create joint educational programmes, strengthen research cooperation and support digital and AI-driven education.
